CAVILI

Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples once crafted clothing by beating tree bark, transforming it into a flexible material. However, this ancient craft has gradually faded over time. Through design, we aim to revive this cultural heritage in a new form, using local and sustainable barkcloth to create a lamp full of life—Cavili.

In the Rukai language, “Cavili” means “time,” symbolizing our deep appreciation for local materials and commitment to cultural sustainability. We have chosen paper mulberry, a fast-growing and invasive species that has troubled farmers, and transformed it into a valuable design element. By giving new purpose to this abundant resource, we embrace circularity and sustainability, allowing light and shadow to tell the story of our land. No matter how time passes, we hope this lamp will continue to evoke a connection to nature, culture, and the essence of sustainability.
